What Can You Buy in Japan for $5
I felt like taking a break during my work-from-home hours, so I decided to go to the convenience store. Convenience stores have different flavored desserts each season. I bought the strawberry dessert that’s available right now for $5.
The Dessert I Found
I bought いちごのクッキーシュー(Strawberry Cookie Cream Puff)and 苺&ホイップサンド~苺果肉入りホイップクリーム使用~(Strawberry Whipped Sandwich). I got these at a convenience store called Lawson.
What It Looks Like

You can see the cross-section of strawberries and the cream puff pastry through the packaging, making it look incredibly delicious.
The rabbit illustration and “ICHIBIKO” logo belong to a famous Japanese strawberry dessert shop, indicating that this product is a collaboration with Ichibiko.

Can you tell how big it is? The cream puff looks a bit small, but after eating it, I realized it was plenty big.

Why Strawberry Desserts are Everywhere?
In Japan, strawberries are in season from winter to spring, so convenience stores and supermarkets release many strawberry-based products. These are usually limited-time offerings and disappear around April.
The $5 Suprise
The strawberry cream puff was 265 yen (1.67 USD), and the strawberry sandwich was 497 yen (3.12 USD), so the total was 762 yen (4.79 USD).
It’s a small dessert, but it’s one of the simple seasonal pleasures of living in Japan.
