What Can You Buy in Japan for $5?
I couldn’t pack a lunch today, so I decided to buy lunch at a convenience store. Here’s a look at the lunch I bought for $5.

This time, we visited FamilyMart, one of Japan’s leading convenience store chains.
It’s the store with the blue and green logo.

I bought a clubhouse sandwich, a small cup of salad with dressing, and a stick of baked cheesecake.
Since the salad contains finely shredded cabbage, I found it easier to eat with chopsticks. After all, since I’m at the office, I want to eat without making a mess on my desk. The dressing is sold separately, and you can choose from several varieties, including Japanese-style and oil-free options.

The dressing costs extra, but I can get chopsticks and wet wipes for free. Before eating, I wiped my hands with these wet wipes.
The bread for the sandwich was toasted and had a delicious, toasty aroma. The ham and vegetables went well together and tasted great. However, I wasn’t able to take a good photo.
The cheesecake also satisfied my craving for a little something sweet after lunch.
Total Costs

The total cost of the sandwich, salad, and cheesecake was 816 yen(5.11USD). Oops, I wanted to keep it under $5, but buying the cheesecake pushed the total just over $5.
Also, the plastic bags to hold these items cost 3 yen. If you shop at a convenience store in Japan, you won’t be charged for the plastic bags if you put your purchases in your own bag.
