Last week, I took my daughter to the movie theater to see *The Super Mario Galaxy Movie*. It was her first time at the theater, but she sat there quietly the whole time without crying or screaming.

Atmosphere in the Lobby

Here’s what the lobby of the movie theater we visited looked like. Since Japan has a long holiday weekend in early May, it was bustling with people. (I had a hard time taking photos without capturing other people’s faces.)

Foods

I bought some orange juice and caramel popcorn for my daughter at the store. I figured even the two of us wouldn’t be able to finish all the popcorn, so I chose the kind that came in a container with a lid.

From arrival to the screening

We purchased our admission tickets online the day before and selected our seats. We received an email with our online tickets, which included QR codes, so we scanned the codes at the terminal at the entrance before going in.

Japanese movie theaters are perhaps best known for their quiet atmosphere during screenings. While you might hear the occasional laugh, no one talks or shouts during the movie. On this particular day, many children had come to watch the film, but none of them cried or left their seats.

I’ll skip the movie review and my thoughts on it (lol), but even though the CG and sound effects were intense from start to finish, my young daughter was able to sit through the whole thing quietly. As a parent, it was heartwarming to see how much she’s grown, and I was relieved that we didn’t disturb anyone around us.
