Last Friday, since I couldn’t bring a packed lunch to the office, I bought one at a supermarket near the office.

The supermarket where I bought the bento, called “Seijo Ishii,” is a slightly upscale store, but since it sells reasonably priced bento boxes aimed at office workers, I shop there from time to time.

What I Bought

I bought a small bento box. It’s filled with seasonal vegetables and traditional Japanese side dishes, and the presentation really captures the essence of the season. It’s very healthy, but the portion size is small, so it might not be quite enough for those with a big appetite.

This bento box contains fried shrimp, teriyaki chicken, and bamboo shoot rice, and it was more filling than it looked. Even though it was so filling, I was happy to see that it was relatively low in calories at 433 kcal.

The black item I’m holding with my chopsticks is a mushroom seasoned with soy sauce. I can really taste the rich umami flavor of the mushroom, and I could keep eating it forever.

Total Costs

The bento cost 646 yen. It wasn’t much more expensive than a convenience store bento, and since it includes plenty of seasonal vegetables, I really liked it.
